December 2, 1998

The Wakulla 2 Expedition kicks off with the installation of the infrastructure.

The morning started with three freshly painted barges being lifted by crane into the spring pool. These barges were attached together prior to the loading of equipment.

The saturation chamber (to be used for decompression) with its detachable transfer capsule were the first to be placed on the barges. Next, the frame for moving the transfer capsule was assembled (it was moved in 7 pieces trucked from Pennsylvania). After assembly, the frame was lifted onto the barges.

The air compressors for the saturation chamber were unloaded from the truck that brought them to Wakulla. Finally, the winches which will raise and lower the transfer capsule were placed on the trollies on the frame.
