June, 1998 Field Test

Below are 2D jpeg images of the 3D Interactive Cave Map produced from the data gathered during the June Field Test. These images show "point clouds" where each colored dot represents an actual point in 3D space on the cave wall where a sonar beam recorded its position. The white grid represents a horizontal plain at the water surface. Each large square is 100 m on edge (each small white square is 10 x 10 m).

The aqua colored wall points number ~53,000 and were recorded in just over 8 minutes on June 18th. The magenta points number ~80,000 and were recorded in ~12 minutes on June 19th.

Prior to plotting, the wall points were adjusted for the drift in the inertial navigation system using radio location at several waypoints. The two data sets were then merged and plotted.
