Inside the DWM (Digital Wall Mapper): Nigel Jones (left) and Paul Blanchette debug the system integration code. The DWM uses eight parallel onboard processors, cranking the equivalent of five Pentium Pro desktop computers, to manage the real-time calculations and data flow. Following a mission, a laptop computer can be plugged into the service buss port and used to download the raw data. The 7-minute-long June 19th mapping mission resulted in more than 4 megabytes of registered geometric information (and 100,000 wall points) about Wakulla Spring. [photo ©1998 Bill Stone].
