Birds

Anhinga--this bird, related to the cormorant, is common at Wakulla Springs State Park. It is a water bird and feeds by fishing. Unlike ducks, the anhinga does not have oil on its feathers and must spread its wings to dry them [photo ©1998 Barbara Anne am Ende].

White Ibis--these birds are not migratory, and they live at the spring all year long [photo ©1998 Barbara Anne am Ende]..

American Coots (dark bird with light beak, center) and American Wigeons (brownish, with light patches)--these migratory birds spend the winter here in the southernUS [photo ©1998 Barbara Anne am Ende].

Great Blue Heron--These tall, long-legged birds are stately denizens of waterways throughout the United States [photo ©1998 Barbara Anne am Ende].

BlackVultures--on misty mornings, vultures sometimes congregate on the swimming platform and the shore at the Wakulla Spring basin.
